About TAR
Over a decade of building community, preserving culture, and supporting Telugu families in the heart of the Canadian prairies.
Our Story
The Telugu Association of Regina (TAR) was founded in 2012 by a small group of Telugu-speaking immigrants who had recently settled in Regina, Saskatchewan. Driven by a desire to stay connected to their cultural roots while helping each other navigate life in a new country, these founding members organized the first Ugadi (Telugu New Year) celebration — an event that brought together just a handful of families.
Over the years, TAR grew steadily as more Telugu professionals, students, and families made Regina their home. What began as informal gatherings evolved into a structured organization with regular cultural events, a newcomer support program, and student mentorship initiatives.
Today, TAR is a vibrant community of over 200 members representing diverse backgrounds across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. We celebrate Ugadi, Sankranti, Diwali, and Independence Days together, while also organizing practical programs to help members integrate successfully into Canadian society.
